Ayurveda is believed to be thousands of years old. Ayurveda teaches the system of food intake called soma-eti (food-energy) formula. There are basic nutrients such as the three elements of earth, water and fire; there are five primary diets, which are vegetarian, non-vegetarian, wheat, millets and pulses. Each of these diets has its own varieties of foods. Each of these diets also has variations. Some of these variations are called "doshas". These are caused due to the karma that you have created, your "vata" (air, wind) and "kasini" (water) conditions. When the "doshas" are balanced, these variations become less prominent.

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are the most famous treatises on yoga, and the most foundational to yoga in India. Also widely known are the 'Yoga Sutra' by Swami Vivekananda and the 'Bhakti Sutra' by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is widely regarded as the first gurukula Hindu monk. “Buddhism spread from India to the world primarily by a network of Buddhist monks called "gurukula"” Yoga is the creation of ancient Indian and Buddhist philosophers and doctors who developed a comprehensive system of physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing in India. Without western-type antibiotics and medical treatments many of the diseases that can affect us today may not be as significant or severe as they are today. Though Ayurveda has numerous challenges to overcome to gain the foothold that it deserves it is the way forward for those who truly seek to honor the heritage and practice of ancient cultures, even if it takes a little work on the individual level.
