Who is CBIC?
Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is the apex authority for the administration of indirect taxation in India. It is an independent statutory body headed by a member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, and its membership is drawn from the services of the Government of India and the private sector. As per Indian law, members of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs are selected for a period of four years from among the senior officers of the Central Board. The present CBIC chairman is him High Up at CBIC, along with two other eminent members. The CBIC chairperson is nominated by the Central Government and is a member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is the nodal national agency responsible for administering Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax & Narcotics in India. It was established under the Central Government Act, 1955, with the responsibility of administering indirect tax. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) conducts the search and selection of Chairman/ Members of the Central Board of Excise and Customs and Director General of India Revenue Intelligence (DGRI) to be appointed by the President on the recommendations of the Finance Minister.
