CST Full Form
|Central Standard Time|
Central Standard Time (CST) is the time zone that marks standard time. In everyday usage, people refer to the time zone as the location (whether a local time, or the time of a specified place) where the sun would be located in a day, if it were in the same place as the UTC point. The term is derived from the first letter in the word “Central,” and is used when standard time is observed. Why is UTC and CST the same? During daylight saving time in the USA, we adjust our clocks to be aligned with CST (see Daylight Saving Time explained below). The two are inextricably linked, as the origin of daylight saving time lies in the need to synchronize clocks between the various countries of the British Empire.
To start standard time, clocks must be moved forward an hour between 2 am and 3 am local time on Sunday, November 4, 2012. Then, on Sunday, November 18, 2012, clocks must be moved back one hour to the same time as Sunday, November 11, 2012. (For example, you’ll go to sleep Sunday night, and when you wake up Monday morning, you'll have an extra hour. This makes it impossible to start standard time in October and end in March because there are only two months between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, so no part of the United States would be on standard time in either case. March 31, 2015 marks the last time that CST starts on Sunday, because starting in 2016, daylight saving time starts in the spring and ends in the fall.
