What is DPPIT?
DPIIT, formerly known as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, is a central government department under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in India. It is responsible for the promotion of industrial development in the country. It carries out researches and provides technical advice to the central government to promote industrialisation of India. It provides consultation to the Central government on matters of policy making, implementation of industrial policies, establishment of industries and national and international export facilitation.
Why is DPPIT important?
As it supports industry in negotiating global trade deals, its chief role is to ensure India receives liberalised market access, which helps in boosting exports. The system is used by more than 70 million companies. What is the system to replace? DPIIT system is being replaced by a unified and modernised electronic portal called India Trade Portal (ITP), which will streamline the policy support activities of DPPIT and make trade facilitation easier. ITP is expected to facilitate smooth operationalisation of DPIIT and shall ease the flow of trade data between DPIIT and various Central and State Government departments. ITP will also incorporate the public interface and dissemination of information on trade-related policies, regulations and programmes through its trade portal.
What does DPIIT do?
DPIIT has a budget of Rs 255 crore as approved by the Department of Expenditure. It has a range of projects for public interest which include: Dotted line: For promoting sale of branded products in market. White line: For creating awareness of school children and raising standard of living. Blue line: To develop Institute of Indian Crafts & Handlooms in each district to promote Indian handicrafts. The role of DPIIT
To promote industrial growth by providing an enabling environment for private sector investments, reforms, policy formulation, incubation and other initiatives, which are supported by the Central Government. Its mission is to maximize the country’s value-added industrial output to 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by encouraging and facilitating industries to play a key role in transforming India into a high-income economy.

The department was formed after 18th Amendment of the constitution of India in 1991 In India, there are no requirement to obtain license for running an employment bureau.
