COBOL Full Form| What is COBOL:Most Endangered Language In The World?

COBOL Full Form

COBOL Full Form-What is COBOL? Most Endangered Language In The World : COBOL is a Common Bussiness Oriented Language. It is a high level programming language. COBOL is used by the US Department of Defense.

COBOL Full Form

Common Bussiness Oriented Language

FAQs About COBOL:

COBOL was first developed in 1963. COBOL is used in various industries, like banking and insurance. So many banks are moving from COBOL to SQL or other frameworks. Besides, COBOL is far from having a practical advantage. So what is the problem? Why is COBOL so far from the mainstream? Well, we may ask why COBOL is still maintained by thousands of programmers. Well, unfortunately, there are many reasons to maintain COBOL!

We all want to reduce our hard cost with respect to technology. Because technology costs have gone up a lot, and software is another example. Secondly, is COBOL a language we can get more money out of, by extending the life span of it? If we can extend the life span of the software, then we can free up time that we can use to innovate. There are three benefits: From Unilever's perspective, they think this is the best thing they can do to keep their business competitive. The actual code that they use was more than 25 years old, and was still being used. After they transitioned over, they discovered they were spending more money than ever before. COBOL was a limiting factor for them.

The US Government has realized that COBOL will be phased out in the coming years. In fact, it is being phased out in 2005. What has happened with an advanced computer such as IBM DB2? Although the developers of COBOL have been encouraging DB2 to get on board with this COBOL migration, DB2 has declined to move in. Why is this happening? As you probably already know, COBOL is very complicated to learn. The task of making a large-scale migration of an industry-proven programming language like COBOL is not easy. As a result, IBM is encouraging interested developers to work on their own and develop other applications instead. The hope is that developers who understand COBOL will then move into the open source industry.

If you want to improve your skills by learning all languages, then your career would be very attractive. Language is definitely not a barrier to learning. A change in one’s career is usually a win-win situation for you and your family.
