FAQs About KFC:
The restaurant chain KFC was founded in 1952 by Scottish-born businessman Sir Crispin Tickell, but it was not until 1955 that his protégé Harland Sanders founded it in his hometown of Corbin, Kentucky. At the time, Americans were devouring breakfast, lunch and dinner at what would become KFC restaurants. The chicken-heavy menu changed American dining habits, in particular the emphasis on quick and cheap meals. In 1960, KFC was purchased by Carluccio's owner, Antonio Carluccio, and the fast food chain expanded throughout the UK. After nearly 40 years of Carluccio's ownership, KFC was sold to Yum! Brands in 2011 for nearly $2 billion. Today, KFC restaurants serve millions of customers every week in 60 countries around the world.
The restaurant was founded in Virginia in 1952 and in 1971, one of the original founders, Colonel Harland Sanders, had decided to close down. However, an employee saw potential in his recipes and brought him to Louisville. Although the former employee was fired, Sanders recognized the potential that lay in Kentucky. The restaurant's success was then popularized by a 1976 advertisement featuring a cartoon Colonel Sanders. In 1981, the name was shortened to Kentucky Fried Chicken. The popularity of the restaurant grew throughout the 1980s, resulting in over 40 restaurants in the region. The chain of restaurants spread rapidly, and by the late 1980s, there were over 500 KFC outlets throughout the country. The company filed for a trademark on the "finger lickin' good" slogan in 1989.
In 1953, restaurateur Col. Harland Sanders, Sr. opened the first KFC restaurant in his hometown of Corbin, Kentucky, alongside his wife, Louise. In 1962, Sanders began franchising out his recipe to other restaurateurs. In the early 1960s, a local marketing professional named Ernie Mills developed the iconic image of the iconic "Flying Colonel" logo. In 1965, a former NFL player named Tom Toms designed the green and white logo that is still used today. In 1971, Sanders sold the rights to KFC for $2.7 million to the Gores Technology Group, a private investment company. The Meaning of the Name According to KFC, the name KFC is actually a registered trademark owned by the company. However, Sanders used the Kentucky as part of the name when he developed the brand.

He was then adopted by a young lady, Elizabeth Jane Miller. While still an apprentice, he was fired for poor performance at a bakery. He then worked as a freight car cleaner and a salesman. In 1914, he arrived in Denver, Colorado, where he met Annie Smith. He married her in 1915 and they settled in a house near the corner of Sixth Street and Pearl Street. It was located at 523 Pearl Street, downtown and featured a cross section of herbs and spices on the biscuits.
In May 2017, Yum Brands announced that it was selling the international operations of KFC and Pizza Hut to a group of investors led by a Chinese food services company called UOB. It was reported that the sale would allow the company to focus on its bigger brands such as Taco Bell and KFC and growth in China, the UK, India and other Asian markets.
