PNG Full Form-What Is A PNG File? And How Do You Open One? PNG is file format that supports loss less data compression. PNG was developed as an improved, non-patented replacement for Graphics Interchange Format. There are plenty of good reasons why you would want to use PNG files.

What is a PNG file?
A PNG file is a bitmap image file format. The primary purpose of this file format is to store lossless data in an image format without any additional compression that is required to optimize the image. Because of its image format, it is easier to edit image file contents. The primary design goal of PNG is to fit as many color and texture combinations into the available memory space. A color PNG file includes red, green, blue and alpha channels. Other dimensions such as height, width, and depth are defined by pixels. PNG is binary format with the maximum depth of eight bits. Other formats such as JPEG support color PNG files in RGB format.
How to open a PNG file
The easiest way to open a PNG file is by double-clicking on the file. This will then open a window that will display all the available options for editing the file. If you double-click on the file once, you’ll get a text editor, or double-click a second time to open an image editor. Portable Network Graphics doesn’t support spaces in the name of a file. So if you’re editing a PNG file, you’ll have to add a space to the name. As you can see, here is a sample PNG file that contains three other images. And yes, you can use any image as a foreground in PNG file format.
When would I use a PNG file instead of another format?
There are plenty of good reasons why you would want to use PNG files instead of the supported formats, which include EPS, PDF, TIFF, SVG, JPEG, PSD and BMP. With PNG files, it is possible to save substantial amounts of storage space. PNG files have up to 20 times the density of most non-PNG formats. This means that it’s possible to save larger, much richer, and more intricate designs. PNG files are significantly faster to load than any other image format, so you can serve images faster on your web site and save some bandwidth on the way. Most importantly, PNG files have very low file size compared to most other image formats, so you can serve larger designs with lower bandwidth.
Why save in PNG format?
The PNG standard supports many resolutions. If you need a detailed explanation of how PNG works, please refer to the PNG spec. The PNG file format can save any size file that fits into a single container (PNG file) and can store any color data. There are also different color depths supported in PNG file format. What is a PNG file in practice? Your PNG file is created by saving an image as an image sequence with a sequence number of the image to be compressed. The image sequences will be called either GIF , JPG . You can create a PNG file by using a graphics editing program (e.g. GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, etc) How to read a PNG file You can read a PNG file using any graphics-editing software.
