What is ROM ?
ROM chip means it’s a memory chip that has only a single function, and it’s “write once, read twice.” It is generally limited to one kind of data, and this kind of chip is on almost all computers, digital cameras, scanners, phones, and many other gadgets. So, once you put a ROM chip into a device, it can only store that one kind of data. Why Is it Important? If you have a computer with a single function (e.g. a web browser or a word processor), this one function is all the computer is good for. If you switch to a different function, like making a video or playing a game, then you need to first load up the computer’s RAM.
Why is ROM Important?
Read-Only Memory (ROM).The read only memory stores data that hasn’t been changed. This includes application data, game data, saved games, program data, or even operating system data. Most software and operating system data cannot be written to once the operating system has been successfully loaded. For example, all games, save games, or programs can only be played once the operating system has been loaded. ROM is the means by which you can erase the contents of the operating system in order to reload it to a different system. This isn’t always necessary, as sometimes you’ll be able to overwrite the installed operating system without ever deleting any of your saved data.
Types of ROM :
Although you might see a bunch of different types of ROMs at your local electronics retail store, they all fall into a few main categories: RAM Firmware SSD. RAM is the memory that is stored on the microchip, or IC , in an electronic product. It acts like the hard drive in your laptop or desktop computer, allowing the CPU to access and manipulate this memory. Many modern games and many commercial applications, such as word processors, work primarily with RAM. Firmware Software (or firmware) programs (or firmware) that are stored on the same type of storage devices used to store RAM.

EPROM: Erasable Programmable ROM.
EEPROM: Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM.
What are ROM’s limitations?
This is very true, to the best of my knowledge, there is one thing that ROM’s are not: RAM, which is the main storage area of a computer. While you can get a lot of information on your hard drive, there’s always one thing you can’t. One thing that can never be forgotten. Even if you have access to it constantly, you’ll never remember everything.
