The History of the SUV :
When pickup trucks ruled the roads in the ’60s, car companies pushed automakers to make buyers in the mid-priced range use their cars on the trails. GM came up with the Suburban nameplate for its High Country big rig and Dodge dubbed its new R/T package its Ram-based “Econic” package. Both helped move market share to the midsize class.By the ’70s, high-end off-roaders such as Willys’ JK, Baja’s Strandz, and Jeep’s Liberty were replacing pickup trucks in the off-road world. In response, Ford launched the Bronco nameplate for a high-riding SUV and Mercury redesigned the Yuma to give it desert-terrain capability. Both failed to attract buyers who were put off by rough ride.
The Features of SUV :
There are tons of great features in SUVs. Here are a few of them: -Suspension – low, but still very good. -Horsepower – The larger the engine, the more powerful the SUV becomes. -Seating – Comfort is what matters. The SUV can seat five comfortably with more of a good result if the vehicle seats seven or more people. How much a Truck and SUV Compare There is a similarity to a truck and an SUV. So, which one should you choose? The latest statistics say the smaller SUV is where it’s at. However, if you need extra seating for seven or more people, then a full-sized SUV is where it’s at.
Safety Features :
Today’s vehicles, with a few notable exceptions, offer basic safety systems. Stand-alone systems, like forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, are available, too. What to Look for They don’t all come standard on every vehicle.Don’t just check whether the vehicle you’re considering offers some type of automatic braking or forward collision warning. Check to see what it offers in terms of driver-assist technologies, such as adaptive cruise control and/or lane departure warning and prevention systems. Look for bells and whistles as well, including antilock brakes. Rebates These often depend on your credit score, the value of your car and how much you’ve paid in payments to the dealer.
Whether you think SUVs are simply a matter of semantics or still belong in the world of true cars, one thing’s for sure: you’ll never confuse them with crossovers, which are essentially passenger cars with a higher ground clearance, a more cargo space, and all-wheel drive. And you will certainly never confuse them with the like-named minivans, such as the Chrysler Town & Country or the Chevy Traverse. That’s not to say these are necessarily better vehicles (just better-suited for the passenger-car world), but they are not SUVs. So next time you encounter an SUV in the parking lot, keep that in mind. Not all SUVs are created equal. Also, while we were at it, let’s compare these three stalwart family cars to one more recent generation of SUV.
